Mastodon has announced a new feature called Collections, designed to help users group posts together and recommend related accounts in curated bundles. The update will ship with version 4.6 of the decentralized platform.
The feature arrives as Mastodon works to make its ecosystem more approachable for newcomers. According to TechCrunch and Dataconomy, the platform has expanded its development team over the past 18 months, bringing on specialists in web, mobile, and backend development, plus a dedicated designer.
Collections let users create thematic content collections, making it easier to discover relevant accounts and organize their own posts. This responds to one of the most common complaints about Mastodon: the difficulty of navigating a federated network for people arriving from centralized platforms like X or Threads.

Beyond Collections, Mastodon has recently rolled out other changes to simplify the user experience. Pinned posts now highlight one prominently, with others accessible via a “View all pinned posts” button. Quote Post controls have been improved, and profile editing is now centralized in account settings.
Version 4.6 launches in the coming weeks and will be available on all updated Mastodon servers. Users can enable Collections manually from their profile settings.
