After a brief outage, the official NewPipe website (https://newpipe.net) is reachable again. The developers sorted out a hosting hiccup that had taken the site offline, so you can now browse the project page or grab the latest builds directly from GitHub.

The glitch that stopped playback

Users reported a “Content not available” error when trying to watch YouTube videos. The issue was introduced in version 0.28.1 and manifested as a regression – a previously working feature that broke after a code change.

The hot‑fix 0.28.2 (see the release notes on GitHub – https://github.com/TeamNewPipe/NewPipe/releases/tag/v0.28.2) addresses the main bug (issue #13082) and patches four additional regressions (#13072, , , ). After installing this build, NewPipe resumes normal video playback without the error message.

Quick and safe upgrade steps

  1. Download the 0.28.2 APK from the official GitHub page linked above.
  2. Open Settings → Security (or “Install unknown apps”) and allow installations from external sources.
  3. Run the APK, grant storage and network permissions when prompted, and let the installer finish.

Once the update is complete, the app should stream YouTube videos again without hiccups.

Why NewPipe still matters

  • No ads, no tracking – a lightweight front‑end that respects your bandwidth.
  • Data‑friendly – ideal for limited mobile plans or slower connections.
  • Open‑source – the code is public, auditable, and community‑driven.

If you enjoy a clean, ad‑free experience, keep the app updated regularly to catch future fixes.

Boosting privacy while you watch

Even though NewPipe itself doesn’t log you, pairing it with a trustworthy VPN or DNS service adds an extra layer of protection, especially on public Wi‑Fi.

  • Secure browsing – try Adguard VPN for encrypted traffic and a built‑in ad blocker.
  • Private DNSAdGuard DNS or NextDNS can block trackers at the resolver level.
