Tower 16 Beta Adds AI-Powered Commit Message Generation for Mac

Tower 16 beta introduces AI-generated commit messages for Mac, supporting Claude Code and OpenAI Codex as AI providers.

Tower, the paid Git client for Mac and Windows, has entered beta with version 16, introducing a feature to generate commit messages using AI. After staging changes, a button in the compose area suggests an automatically generated message and description. A dropdown menu with preset prompts lets you quickly switch between styles, such as from a concise message to a more detailed one.

A new AI settings tab lets you choose your preferred provider, Claude Code or OpenAI Codex, and manage custom prompts. This is useful for teams working with strict conventions, like Conventional Commits.

The compose area got a redesign independent of the AI features too: three new icons provide quick access to an expanded message body view, commit templates, and automatic line wrapping.

Other beta improvements include better performance with Graphite repositories that have many branches, the ability to create partial stashes by dragging individual files, and various fixes, including one that prevented the app from launching in certain cases.

Tower 16 is available in beta by switching the update channel in settings. The client is paid, with a 30-day free trial.
