Signal 8.8 for Android: Cleaner Interface and Voice Message Fix

Signal 8.8 for Android is in beta testing with a refreshed conversation interface, better media sharing options, and the ability to reply to notifications with attachments.

No login, no IP stored.

Signal 8.8 is heading to Android with a handful of interface tweaks and fixes that address quirks from recent releases.

A tidier interface

The most noticeable changes land in the conversation header and message request screen, both getting visual refreshes. The system permissions dialog gets a facelift too, bringing it in line with the rest of the app’s look.

Signal also fixes an issue where your profile avatar wasn’t displaying correctly in the reactions panel.

Better media handling

Context menus for images, videos, and other media now consistently include share and forward options, something that was hit-or-miss before. It’s a small change that makes managing shared files in chats less clunky.

You can now reply to incoming messages directly from notifications even when they contain attachments, a feature that wasn’t supported until now.

Fixes worth noting

Voice message playback no longer gets interrupted by your screen locking. Quote previews are back to showing up correctly. Sender names in your conversation list won’t get cut off anymore. Auto-scrolling while reordering stickers is working as intended again.

One more behind-the-scenes improvement: original timestamp metadata is now preserved when you save an incoming attachment.

Version 8.8 is available for beta testers now. If you’re using Obtanium, enable pre-releases to get it.
